Additive Manufacturing

Additive manufacturing involves the predominantly layer-by-layer production of components based on a digital 3D model. In contrast to subtractive manufacturing, such as milling or turning, no material is removed here, but applied layer by layer. The potential lies particularly in the fast and cost-effective production of prototypes and small series, the high degree of geometrical freedom, functional integration and application- and patient-specific individualization.

At the LKT, research focuses on material and process developments in both powder-bed and liquid-phase-based additive manufacturing as well as the production of large-volume, functionalized components.
