Circular economy instead of throwing away: Post-consumer waste accumulates in large quantities in Germany, and only 33% of it is recycled; the majority is still incinerated. The European Green Deal is setting out fundamental changes in direction here. Commitments to recycling textiles, for example, will significantly increase the availability of recycled materials from textiles in the near future. PET from the textile industry in particular offers many opportunities for use in technical plastic articles such as housings, electrical components, insulation, lightweight construction and hybrid parts.
LKT and EurA AG are therefore establishing a new innovation network with small and medium-sized enterprises. The aim is to manufacture new technical plastic products from recycled textiles.
The new innovation network is primarily aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs): injection molders, plastics processors, toolmakers, textile recyclers, compounders, recyclate or plastics processors, but also users and processors of technical plastic parts (such as electronics, housings, construction foams) and research institutions. In addition, selected large companies contribute their expertise and market presence as associated partners or target customers.

Together with Carbon, a leading company in liquid-phase-based additive manufacturing, the LKT operates the Center for “Advanced Design and Development”, which was established on the LKT premises in Erlangen in 2023. The aim of this “Industry on Campus” cooperation is to intensify research in the field of liquid-phase-based additive manufacturing at the LKT, particularly with regard to material developments, and to strengthen cooperation between research and industry, which will also give regional companies access to the technology. Find out more about our research focuses and machines for liquid-based additive manufacturing at LKT.
