International Collaboration at LKT Through Student Exchange

International collaboration is an important part of our work at the LKT. One great example is our ongoing cooperation with Prof. Allen Román’s group from the University of Minnesota, which connects our two research groups on multiple levels — from guest lectures on simulation in additive manufacturing to joint supervision of Master’s theses in the USA.

A recent example is Tom Fischer, who is working on his master’s thesis in collaboration between our two institutes. His work focuses on Fused Filament Fabrication and the use of a rotating nozzle to influence shear flow and filler orientation during the printing process. At the recent SPE-ACCE conference, Tom had the opportunity to present his research results with a poster and presentation: “Engineering a Fused Filament Fabrication Printhead Capable of Shear Flow and Thermal Conductivity Modulation Through a Rotating Nozzle”.

Congratulations, Tom, on your work and on presenting your research to the AM community!

A great example of how international cooperation can create opportunities for students while strengthening research collaboration.

Many thanks to Allen for the excellent collaboration and the opportunity for such exciting student projects!

We would also like to acknowledge the support of the NSF and the Professor Dr.-Ing. Erich Müller-Stiftung.
