The Characterization and Processing of Photosensitive Polymer by UV-assisted Direct Ink Writing

Fengze Jiang

UV-assisted additive manufacturing is one of the novel hybrid additive manufacturing technology with variety of applications. In UV-assisted additive manufacturing, the crosslinking process when materials under UV light exposure could affect either the curing kinetics and the final part properties. The improving of functional resin also expend the application of the technology. In this case, a thorough study of the fundamental understanding of the curing kinetics and the related characterization of the material including composites material is very important. In this work, the photosensitive resin receipt were investigated with its curing kinetics and the physical properties. The relationship between the material composition, UV light intensity, exposure time, and material curing degree with self-developed photosensitive resin were investigated. A self-designed UV assisted direct writing printer was used to test out the effects of the different materials on the part properties. On the basis of experimental results, it was found that the effects of the UV parameters on curing properties of the resin, including curing kinetic model, viscosity, printing parameters and printed part properties. The increasing of the light intensity could mostly increase the curing speed, curing degree, curing depth of the resin, however, the extra reaction heat weaker the cured part and decrease the printing accuracy and the mechanical properties. In addition, to expand the information to current needs, the composite resin with two types of the fillers has been discussed and present the controllability of the orientation of the fillers and the comparison between the composite and pure resin.to demonstrate the potential for further research and applications
