Powder Injection Molding

Jawmodel with Implant

Powder injection molding uses the geometrical freedom of injection molding to build complex ceramic devices. The process chain starts with mixing a feedstock (high filled compound), which is then formed to fit the device via injection molding. After removing the polymers the ceramic particles are sintered to a compact ceramic device. Because of the cost-effectiveness of serial processing these ceramic parts are used in medical or sensoric areas and for design elements. Forming accurate parts is only possible by matching materials, processes and geometry.

The Institute of Polymer Technology researches mixing and analyzing new binder systems and works to optimize processing and to identify the greatest factors in forming.
