Information about the person

Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Gottfried Wilhelm Ehrenstein was born in Gdansk in 1937 and studied mechanical engineering after completing a humanistic Abitur at the Hanover Technical University. After completing his doctorate (Prof. Matting), he worked for BASF for 10 years in the application Engineering Department of Plastics and at the same time was an assistant professor at the University of Karlsruhe (TH, Prof. Macherauch). From 1977 to 1989 he was head of the institute of Material Science and Polymer Technology. Since 1989 he was the professor of Plastic Technology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

From 1987 to 1992 he was head of the Süddeutsche Kunststoffzentrum in Würzburg. In 1992, he became honorary professor of the Chemistry Institute of the University of Qingdao, China, and in 1996 honorary doctor of the Budapest University of Technology. Prof. Ehrenstein is a sworn expert of the IHK Nuremberg for plastics and special materials based on plastics and the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt), Berlin.
